They say older the friendship stronger is the bond. Is it really so?
Let's see.
The Lion, the Elephant and the Tigress were old friends for 4 years. The Lion and the Tigress were best friends.
The whole jungle was remarked by their friendship and no animal would dare to come in between them. The Elephant was
the wise one who was never biased with any one of the two. The Tigress was possessive for the two of them and was always
ready to fight to preserve what she loved the most : her friendship. Be it hunting together deep in the forest or fetching
water from the faraway river, these three would never leave each other's side. The elephant knew that the Lion is with the
Tigress because he had no one else to go with but the Tigress was blindfolded in love towards her friends.
Then came the hunters and succeeded in catching the Lion and were on their way back to sell of its skin. The Tigress
called the Elephant for help. He told the Tigress that the hunters are armed and to let it go. The tigress was too stubborn and
her heart never agreed with the thought to let her friend suffer alone.
In the dark night the Tigress attacked the camp of the hunters and freed her friend. As they were running back in the jungle
the Lion saw that the Tigress was badly injured and was bleeding profusely. He left her on the riverside and called the
Elephant for help. The Elephant brought all the herbs he could fetch and carried her on his back and brought her home safely.
The Tigress was healed gradually but she was very silent. No one except the elephant understood her deep silence.
As days passed by the jungle was getting deprecated and all the animals had to shift to a new forest. It was not their home
but they had no other choice. The new animals residing welcomed all their new guests.
The Lion made new friends with the wolves and the fox. Slowly the old friends were no longer seen together. The Tigress fell ill
and was losing her strength to even walk. The Elephant came to her and started caretaking for her. The tigress still remained
silent. One night it was raining heavily and she was shivering. The Elephant held her paws with his mighty trunk as she
took her last breathe.
The next morning the whole forest came to mourn her death. The Lion came to talk to the Elephant as he was performing the last rituals
on her grave with his trunk. The Lion asked why didn't she tell him when she was so ill. Why was she so biased in her friendship with the
Elephant.
The Elephant could no longer listen to the wrong saying that he is right. Finally he opened up his thoughts he had piled up all
these years.
"Friends don't need to give invitation to the parties or to the burial. Friends don't need to give explanations.
You were not there with her during her last breathes is your inefficiency. She was not supposed to tell, you were
supposed to know by yourself that your friend needs you. I was there with her by my choice. You were not there on your own choice.
All this while she knew she was losing you but she never complained because she was still believing that one day you will return
and ask her the reason behind her silence. She was silent since the night you left her behind on that riverside in the pool of
blood. She was hoping that you will cure her and bring her back home because you were as much dear to her as I was. But you
took the easier turn and called me instead. Friends don't look for alternate options but they are ready to help with whatever
little they have. You had your pack of wolves and the fox but our dearest friend had only we two.So now instead of blaming her or yourself
just help me in performing her last rituals."
With tears in their eyes her dead body was lifted by the two of them and was rested in the earth deep.

This piece is something I can very much relate to. And not just me, many people will. And it was very thoughtful of you to write on this topic. The story is very well written and the narrative never rushes. Hope to read more such, and better, stuff from you.
ReplyDeleteP.S.- I know I'm the lion most of the times.
Everyone can relate to each of the character and sometimes we are a mixture of all. P.S. You had been an elephant too at times. I am hoping to come up with more metaphorical write-ups. Keep cheering me up !!!
